The north
From the runway's end to the first headlands: the longest sand on the island and the fewest people on it.
The dry months: a flat sea on the west coast, the sand wide, the sunsets clear. December to March is the peak inside it — the fullest beaches and the highest prices.
The low season — May to October
The south-west monsoon: waves and red flags on the west coast on rough days; the east and south coasts stay sheltered. Short showers, green hills, empty beaches.
What the season costs
Short stays follow the calendar — the same home costs more by the night in December than in September; a lease smooths it. The figures: the rentals block below.
The year, drawn
Waves and sunny days
waves on the west coast in the low season: the higher the bar, the rougher the sea
sunny days: the month’s days without rain
rough: the top of the bars’ scale
calm: its foot
high season
Hover or tab onto a month for its figures.
When to come: the high season, November to April — the west coast at its calmest and the most sunny days; January is the sunniest, 27 of its 31 days without rain. The peak, December to March: the fullest beaches and the highest prices.
The low season, May to October: the west coast has its rough days — June is the roughest, 100% of the bars’ scale — and September is the dullest, 7 of its 30 days without rain. The east and the south stay sheltered: their roughest low-season month, June, reaches 58% of the scale.

Apartments, any bedrooms, one month from November 2026: the average per beach, the cheapest first — over the homes each card counts; that line opens the beach’s catalog page with the same choice in a new tab.
Bang Tao, Nai Harn and Kamala have the three things a long stay needs: flat streets behind the sand, a supermarket and a clinic within a short drive, and rentals by the month rather than the night. Bang Tao adds the international schools and the airport road.
From May to October the west coast has waves and, on rough days, red flags; the sheltered bays — Nai Yang behind its reef, Ao Yon on the east coast — swim all year. Between the flags, on a calm day, most beaches are fine.
The main bays in season: Patong, Karon, Kata, Kamala, Surin, Bang Tao, Layan, Nai Harn, Nai Yang and Nai Thon. The coves have none; the rocks are the risk there, not the current.
Every beach has a zone: the land within a kilometre and a half of its waterline, split halfway between neighbours where two beaches meet. A rental inside the zone is listed under that beach, with its straight-line distance to the sand.
Mai Khao: ten kilometres of national-park beach twelve minutes from the terminal, with a handful of resorts and nobody on the sand.
Bang Tao has four on its southern stretch, Surin the dinner restaurants on the road above, Kamala and Patong a club each at their ends, Paradise Beach is a club on its own.
