Ao Sane is a small beach on Phuket's south-west coast, clearly visible from Nai Harn but easy to miss: you reach it by driving through The Nai Harn resort and over the hill. It is made of three tiny sandy coves separated by granite boulders, and you can walk from one to the next past a few beach bungalows.
The first cove is the largest, with a beach restaurant where people spend hours in the shade of the trees, chairs for rent and a tiny dive shop renting snorkelling gear. The sand is coarse, rocks are scattered on the beach and in the water, and the seabed slopes down quickly, so it is more a place to snorkel than to paddle.
Coral and fish lie a few metres from shore, and the cove is also used for beach diving. It is calmer than the open west-coast beaches, and some guides say it can be snorkelled even in the rainy season on calm days.

Snorkellers and anyone looking for a quiet, shaded cove near Nai Harn.
Three tiny coves between granite boulders just north of Nai Harn, with some of south Phuket's best shore snorkelling, trees for shade all day and the calm of a place few people find. It is a rocky, coarse-sand beach with a steep slope into the sea, and getting there means a narrow road through a resort and very little parking.
