Freedom Beach is a crescent of soft white sand about 300 m long on the west side of the headland between Patong and Karon, with turquoise water and granite rocks at both ends. No road reaches the sand: you arrive by longtail boat, about 10 minutes from the south end of Patong, or on foot down a steep jungle trail from the road above.
When Phuket 101's author first came in 1996 it was deserted; restaurants and a path followed, and social media has made it well known. The beach itself has kept its soft sand and clear water, with one restaurant, Barefoot Bistro, chairs for rent and basic toilets and showers. Mornings are the quietest time, before the boat groups arrive.
In August 2026 officials temporarily closed the beach to visitors; reopening depends on sea and weather conditions, with no fixed date. Check the current status before you go.
