About Pho Tong

The big, loud family kind of rice-soup restaurant, open to the street on the clock-tower circle in Phuket Town, where Thai families and groups off work fill some 60 seats every evening. You order rice or khao tom and a few plates to share, cooked at a row of woks in full view: the southern sour curry, gaeng som, first, then chilli dip with pork cracklings or prawns with sataw beans. Plates run 100–160 baht; it opens at 3 pm and goes on until midnight.
