Laem Sing is a small cove of soft golden sand on Phuket's west coast, between Surin and Kamala, backed by giant granite boulders, palm trees and jungle-covered cliffs. The water is clear and the waves calm for most of the high season, and the cove is easy to admire from the viewpoint on the coast road above.
In the 2000s it was one of Phuket's busiest small beaches, with rows of chairs, half a dozen restaurants, jet skis and a concrete staircase from the road. In April 2017 a land dispute closed the staircase, and the land was later sold to a hotel group. The beach is still public by law, and since late 2017 people have reached it by a small boat from Surin, and later by a rock path along the shore.
Today it is almost deserted. One small Thai restaurant on a wooden terrace in the rocks serves food and cold drinks, a vendor or two sometimes sells souvenirs or offers a massage, and that is all: no toilets, no sunbeds, no lifeguards. Bring what you need and take your rubbish back with you.

The southern rocks towards Kamala have the clearest water and most fish; bring your own mask, as the restaurant does not always rent gear.

Calm, clear water in the high season. The seabed drops quickly past the sand, so stay close if you are not a strong swimmer.

The family that runs the only restaurant also looks after the path; a drink or a plate of fried rice on their terrace is a good way to say thanks.

The northern end of the cove is the better spot for swimming and bodyboarding when there are small waves.
Head to the south end of Surin Beach. The rock path starts just past Tukta, and the boat leaves from the same spot. Tukta Food & Drink
Take the 15-minute rock path at mid to low tide, or the small boat for 100 THB, which includes the ride back.
The rocks on the left, towards Kamala, have the most fish; bring your own mask.
Fried rice or a Thai curry on the wooden terrace of the cove's only restaurant; cash only.
Shade is gone by early afternoon. Take the boat back with your numbered card, or walk while the tide allows.

A morning of snorkelling and swimming in a near-empty cove, reached by boat or a short rock walk from Surin.
A small palm-fringed cove of soft golden sand below giant boulders, with clear water, good snorkelling at both headlands and almost nobody on it, even in high season. It stays out of the top band because there are no toilets, sunbeds or lifeguards, shade runs out by midday, and there is litter at times.

The rocks at the southern headland, towards Kamala, have the clearest water and the most fish; the northern rocks are good too.
With no road access, the jet skis, touts and parking attendants of the past are gone, and the cove feels almost empty.
A small boat from the south end of Surin takes a few minutes; the rock path takes 15 to 20 minutes, with a short boulder climb at the start.
A family-run Thai restaurant on a wooden terrace above the sand serves simple food and cold drinks, cash only.
The cove is one of Phuket's classic views from the viewpoint on the coast road between Surin and Kamala.
There is no lifeguard post on Laem Sing; swim close to shore and keep children near you.
The seabed deepens quickly just past the sand; children are happiest in the shallows.
Rocks lie just under the surface near both headlands; snorkel on calm days and wear water shoes.
The first stretch of the path from Surin crosses boulders that the sea covers at high tide; go at mid to low tide in proper shoes, or take the boat.
In the low season the boat may not run and the sea is rougher; check at Surin before setting out.
The beach faces west; shade along the boulders goes by midday. Bring water and sunscreen, as nothing is sold except at the restaurant.

Nothing is built on the cove. Homes and hotels are around Surin Beach to the north and Kamala to the south, with villas on the cliffs along the coast road between them.

Laem Sing is not an easy beach with small children: the path starts with a boulder climb, the boat lands on the sand, the seabed drops quickly and there are no toilets or lifeguards. With older children who swim well, the snorkelling and the quiet are a real treat.
There is no road access. Go to the south end of Surin Beach, past Tukta, and either walk the 15-minute rock path or take the small boat across.
ที่จอดรถ: No parking at the cove. Use the car park behind Surin Beach.
The beach faces west; shade along the boulders lasts only until late morning, and afternoons are hot.
The rocks at the start of the path are easiest at mid to low tide. At high tide waves wash over them; take the boat.
The restaurant takes Thai baht in cash only, and there is no ATM within walking distance.
Flip-flops slip on the wet rocks at the start of the path; trainers or sport sandals are ideal.
The boat crew gives you a numbered card; hand it to the boatman at Laem Sing for the free ride back.
Gear is not always for rent, and there are no loungers; a sarong or light mat does the job.
There are no bins on the beach and litter can build up. Carry everything back out.
